How did Maggie McNair Begin?
When I was just a little four year old, I loved flying kites and dreaming of cooking gourmet meals, but there was one thing that I despised…having my hair brushed! I mean I REALLY didn’t like it! My mom would always tell me that I need to have “the spiders” brushed out. She was just talking about the little knots in my hair, but I didn’t know that.
Then one day she thought, “Hey, that’s a good idea for a story!”
So she wrote a story called Maggie McNair Has Spiders in Her Hair. She thought it would get me to brush my hair. It worked!
Then she met an illustrator and asked him to make me come to life as a character. They put pictures with words and made a book. It became popular with kids in elementary schools. Not long after that, they made two more books– Maggie McNair Wears Stinky Underwear and Maggie McNair Has Sugar Bugs in There. Creating stories about hygiene kept them very busy. They even have a story about keeping your finger out of your nose. Not that I ever did that, but there are a lot of kids that do! They went to schools and presented the Maggie stories to thousands of children. They visited book stores and signed lots of books. I even signed a few myself.
Somewhere along the way my mom had an "awakening" (that’s what the grown-ups call it). She thought that Maggie McNair and her really cool bug friends needed to teach children the things that REALLY mattered– like knowing who they are in Christ.
She feels that kids need to understand God's Word so they can have victory in all situations. So my mom formed a team and together they prayed, prayed and prayed some more. They added some new bug friends to represent all of the fruit of the Spirit. The illustrator and my mom got busy script writing and preparing for the new Maggie McNair's World, where kids can be kids, bugs can be bugs and God can be God. Now, we are anxiously awaiting the next phase as God reveals His plan.
Hopefully soon, Maggie McNair's World will be making a difference in your world.
